The shampoo cap can be warmed up in the microwave, so that it feels more comfortable. The outside of the hat is made of sturdy plastic, so that the shampoo also remains inside the hat during washing. The cap is put on the head and applied over the hair, after which the scalp can be massaged for a few minutes with the shampoo contained in the inside of the cap.
